CEEQUAL Version 6 Launch June 27th 2019
BRE Global are set to officially launch the latest version of CEEQUAL, the World-renowned infrastructure assessment tool that has been widely used within the sector on large and small projects since 2003.
Following the merger of CEEQUAL into the BRE in 2015 this latest version of the CEEQUAL scheme has undergone a technical upgrade and industry wide consultation. The review has focused on bringing together the methodologies of BREEAM Infrastructure Pilot with the existing and well established CEEQUAL Version 5 using the best aspects of both. The result, CEEQUAL Version 6, will replace both of these existing schemes.
With practical experience of implementing sustainability issues into large infrastructure projects and as BREEAM Infrastructure assessors to Thames Tideway Envision has been delighted to provide technical support to BRE during the update process.
CEEQUAL Version 6 has undergone systematic and technical updates across the whole scheme to align the standard with the BREEAM family. Crucially to bring the standard up to date four new areas are being promoted:
Whole Life Carbon – With the need for the UK to radically cut GHG emissions CEEQUAL has been strengthened to encourage whole life carbon management. The adoption of PAS2080 standard is being proactively promoted as the best way to holistically assess and manage all sources of GHG emissions from infrastructure assets.
Circular Economy – Use of resources within the built environment is largely based on our existing linear economy of consumption. Under CEEQUAL version 6 resource use has been refocused toward adopting circular economy principles to promote resource productivity by maximising economic and social capital as well as protecting environment.
Resilience – The scope of risk assessment and mitigation has been extended with the introduction of assessment of dependencies. Additional risks include assessment against natural hazards and intentional threats and how well schemes have been designed to be adaptable to maximise the investment life of the asset.
Ethical Labour – The introduction of ethical labour practices extends project duties and responsibilities from those directly engaged to the wider supply chain
