Following a major fire in 2013, the historical Walworth Town Hall suffered major fire damage to the roof and some internal areas. This refurbishment project aimed to restore this Grade II Listed Building to its forma glory by retaining the iconic historical features of the building and introducing modern multi-use functional spaces. For this development renovations were made which incorporated a new artificial skylight, public health café space, and multiple spaces for communal office letting. Working with local community groups and in partnership with stakeholders like Southwark Council and English Heritage, this building has been designed as hub for the local community and businesses.
Envision provided a range of expertise to help the project achieve its targeted ‘Very Good’ BREEAM rating, these included:
- BREEAM RFO Assessment services
- BREEAM Advisory Professional support
Regular contact with the main contractor and on-site engagement with the construction team created opportunities to uplift this project and achieve the targeted BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit Out score.
Support was given to the team to uplift the BREEAM score to target a ‘Very Good’. This involved critically re-evaluating the achievable credits and identifying new areas for improvement between the design stage and construction of the building. Working with all project stakeholders since 2021, this project has delivered a community and workplace hub in the heart of Elephant and Castle, London.
