James Allen’s Girls’ School

Client: James Allen’s Girls’ School

Location: Dulwich, London

Size: 1000sqm, £1m

Project Start: November 2023

Our Scope: MEP Design Services

In late 2023 Envision was approached by TPI to provide M&E design and client side duties in the conversion of an existing school building at 2 Dulwich Village for James Allen’s Girls School to apartments and some minor school uses.

James Allen’s Girls’ School was recently announced as The Sunday Times: London Independent School of the Year and incorporates a Pre-Prep and up to Senior School. The original school was opened in 1741 and has 1100 students. The main facility is located at 144 East Dulwich Grove and the Pre-Prep is currently located at 2 Dulwich Village. The plans for the site at 2 Dulwich Village are part of a wider project to re-locate the Pre-Prep facilities to the main school site.

Envision’s works have included concept MEP design for the apartments and school office use whilst trying to negotiate the intricacies of a heritage property and remaining sympathetic to these.

The project had tight budget constraints but these have been overcome by re-use of existing systems where possible.

The project is going to tender in the new year with works due to start as soon as planning permission is achieved. The Envision team are looking forward to seeing how the works develop alongside future works with the school!
