Orchard Centre Extension, Didcot

Client: Hammerson

Location: Didcot, South Oxfordshire

Leisure, Retail

Envision has been working with Hammerson as BREEAM Assessors and professional advisors for the new Orchard Centre Extension in Didcot.

The Orchard Centre provides the main town centre retail offer in Didcot, 14 miles south of Oxford. The centre is anchored by a Sainsbury’s food store, which trades alongside retailers including Next, Argos, Superdrug and Clarks. Hammerson has recently completed the redevelopment of the adjacent site, having gained consent in 2015 for a further 28 retail and leisure units. The new extension is anchored by M&S Foodhall, H&M and TK Maxx.

Envision has been working with Hammerson and the design team led by Chapman Taylor architects to certify the development to BREEAM Very Good. Envision has been providing BREEAM assessor support and BREEAM AP advice to the project since 2015. In order to reach this rating the buildings incorporate a number of sustainability initiatives, including a green roof. It is also constructed from sustainable and responsibly sourced materials. The design was one of the first to be accompanied by a life cycle carbon assessment, which was undertaken for the development to evaluate embodied carbon within the build process.
