Project Music Box

Client: London College of Creative Media/Trust for London

Location: Southwark, London

Envision was appointed by Trust for London to undertake the Mechanical and Electrical Design, Energy and BREEAM requirements for a £4.5m fit out of a new creative media college facility in Southwark for the London College of Creative Media (LCCM).

The BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Music College incorporates six floors comprising rehearsal and performance rooms, recording studios, and audio visual, drum and practice booths. The building also boasts a 200-capacity, multi-purpose performance space in the basement.

Envision’s design required close co-ordination with the Architect and the Acoustician to ensure that planning requirements regarding noise and energy were met. The scheme utilises a CHP engine heating system, alongside Air Source Heat Pumps to heat and cool the building.

Plant space restrictions meant that sacrifices had to be made with regard to the cooling. Envision undertook Dynamic Simulation Modelling to demonstrate how rooms without cooling would still meet the comfort criteria detailed in CIBSE’s TM52 Guidance.

Envision have worked closely with the Fit-Out Contractor, QOB Interiors, to ensure a successful end product for LCCM. The project completes in February 2018 and shows a highly flexible approach to design.
