This project involved replacing an existing residential dwelling with a sustainable, three-storey, four-bedroom home in Dulwich, London. Designed by Scenario Architects, the development sought to achieve high sustainability standards while delivering exceptional comfort and functionality for the occupants.
Envision provided Sustainability and Energy Assessment, Digital Twinning, and MEP consultancy services, ensuring sustainability, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Sustainability and Energy Assessment: Delivered a comprehensive analysis to align the project with Net Zero Carbon goals and meet standards like the London Plan Energy Hierarchy
- Digital Twinning and Simulation Modelling: Created a dynamic virtual model for energy and thermal comfort analysis, including TM59 compliance to mitigate overheating. and LETI.
- MEP Design Support: Advised on energy-efficient systems like high-performance heat pumps and LED lighting. Designed an optimal PV system for renewable energy generation and ensured compliance with energy regulations.
- Part L SAP Compliance: Conducted assessments to meet Part L1 Building Regulations using SAP 10 emission factors.
- Passive Design Strategies: Recommended upgrades like high-performance building fabric, triple-glazed windows, and reduced air permeability to enhance energy performance and occupant comfort.
Envision leveraged Digital Twinning and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) expertise to enhance sustainability and optimize the design of a proposed residential project, ensuring energy efficiency and alignment with Net Zero goals. Key contributions include:
Digital Twinning:
- Created a dynamic digital model of the proposed house, enabling real-time simulations to test and refine sustainability strategies.
- Hosted collaborative workshops with the client and design team to gather input for operational modelling.
- Developed and analysed five optimized design options aligned with LETI residential energy use intensity (EUI) targets and space heating demand.
- Identified strategies to achieve Net Zero and reduce energy bills, facilitating data-driven decision-making before construction began.
- Enabled the design team to identify optimal energy efficiency and thermal performance solutions, reducing potential design conflicts and ensuring smooth implementation.
MEP Services:
- Provided comprehensive guidance on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, integrating sustainable technologies that met client objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Optimized heating and hot water systems using heat pumps, achieving significant carbon savings while enhancing occupant comfort.
- Designed and placed photovoltaic (PV) panels to harness renewable energy, contributing to the project’s Net Zero Carbon target.
Project Outcomes:
- Data-Driven Decision-Making: Digital simulation allowed the design team to validate and refine sustainability measures, ensuring alignment with the London Borough of Lewisham’s policies as well as bespoke Client targets.
- Energy Efficiency: Integration of advanced MEP systems, including efficient heat pumps and a PV array, resulted in a 116% reduction in CO2 emissions beyond Part L targets, achieving Net Zero Regulated Carbon.
- Streamlined Design Process: Early identification of challenges through digital twinning minimized delays and revisions, saving time and resources.
- Sustainability Leadership: Envision’s expertise ensured the project aligned with best practices outlined in the London Plan, LETI, and the RIBA 2030 Challenge.
Through these innovations, the project successfully delivered a future-proof, environmentally conscious home that balances occupant comfort, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
