Sainsburys Sutton achieves BREEAM Very Good

Sainsbury's BREEAM

Envision supported LxB Retail Developments and Sainsbury’s Stores Limited to develop a new superstore in Sutton. Our involvement started in 2010 to deliver a sustainability and low carbon energy strategy for the mixed use scheme, comprising a circa 12,000 m2 foodstore, with 5 retail units and 93 flats.

The mixed use scheme includes PV, a CHP energy centre and a GSHP serving the foodstore. Our involvement required us working closely with a range of key project statkeholders, including Sutton Council and the GLA.

As part of our role we prepared a decentralised energy viability assessment to explore whether an energy centre serving the whole site would be beneficial in terms of cost and carbon abatement. Our work and subsequent negotiation enabled Sainsburys to operate in isolation of the energy centre, achieving greater commercial flexibility and whole life carbon reduction.

The foodstore achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating, which was certified in May 2017 by Envision.
